*sigh* I didn”t want to comment on this, but after reading this interview with John Cadice from Soda Pop Miniatures, I now feel like I can”t help but say something.

If you”ve never heard of Soda Pop – good, don”t buy anything from them. If you have heard of them, also don”t buy anything from them.

Soda Pop make anime inspired miniatures and recently entered into the board game arena with a game called Super Dungeon Explore – a game I was actually pretty interested in and looking into adding to my next board game order.

Then came Tentacle Bento. If you are into anime, that is awesome. If you are into porn, that”s cool too. But playing a game about kidnapping school girls so you can pull them into a classroom and tentacle rape them is never ok. And making that game is even worse. Fortunately, following these articles on Insert Credit and Kotaku, Kickstarter, the crowd funding website through which Soda Pop was raising the money to print the game, pulled it from their site. Check out the deeply disturbing way Cadice describes snatching a girl to have a “cram session” in this video description of the game. Over on F:AT, game reviewing bad boy, Michael Barnes railed on the game, its creators, and its supporters in this thread, better than I ever could.

Later, this article (again on Kotaku) seemed to show something good coming out of this: an apology from Cadice and Soda Pop.

Then came the interview on BGG linked at the top of this post (and linked here again.) Did you see what he did there?

Yes. Conclusions were drawn and leapt to. We have a fun product that pokes at a weird aspect of anime culture. We do not explore it’s “adult” roots.

And later:

In the end, word smiths will cut apart our words, as evident in Kotaku’s follow up article where they declare we “apologized”… apologizing for someone’s discomfort or perceived offence is not “apologizing” for creating our product… we do no such thing. We make a lot of cool things, we would hate to be colored with a broad brush.

Lest I”m thought a word smith, go read his whole interview. I linked it twice. That is the most bullshit apology ever. You apologize for something when you agree that you did wrong. Cadice doesn”t think he did anything wrong. He apologizes for the feelings of those who perceived offense. Bullshit. That is the notpology of an asshole. I won”t support an asshole or his company.
